OLAS to close after 27 years
Just read about this on twitter, ironcly ine of things he said contributed to Firmager closing it down.

Bought it for a few years and never really agreed with Mr on alot of things but 27 years is a great run and deserves credit.

Happy retirement

Never took to Mr Firminger. OLAS was never as good as Hammerscope!

Re: OLAS to close after 27 years
Back in the day that fanzines had a real role, I never enjoyed OLAS. On A Mission From God was far, far funnier and insightful. Always found OLAS to be a little self-important and preachy.

No views on Firmager other than what I've read, so credit to him for managing to make money out of it.

In sure this is about the third time he's announced that he's closing down.

FAH was the best fanzine ever

Still got a box full of early West Ham fanzines,a whole mixture too...if anyone wants them, pick them up or I'll post them for cost...should be about 12-15 quid..I'm in East Hants

Otb...

I didnt like Firmager as he thought he spoke for every west ham fan and every west ham fan agreed with him.

Re: OLAS to close after 27 years
FAH was fucking brilliant. Proper funny and full of insight without self importance

The complete opposite of OLAS and that self serving prick Firmager who thought in some bizarre way that he was better than most of us and without doubt, the club as a whole. Utter cunt of a man

Hope he is reading this

I always loved chandler's cartoons and artwork

Re: OLAS to close after 27 years
I'd wanted to write for OLAS but it always seemed an old boys club all towing some pseudo corporate line. "You know me this is what I always say" that sort of thing.

Not sticking it to the man like fanzines should. But that's cos I grew up on non league fanzines and the 90s West Ham ones.

Websites like this have replaced it and unfortunately every cunt can have his opinion heard nowadays.

I appreciate the irony in that statement for the PCB

*Lowers pants to half mast*

FAH was to OLAS as Bobby Moore was to Neil Orr

I wish I'd been old enough and could afford West Ham when FAH and the Prince of Wales and all that was going on.

I love West Ham tradition.

Yeah, I liked Chandler's cartoons - he used to draw Julian Dicks spot on. And Bish. Anyway 27 years is a decent run for any fanzine, that's for sure.

I liked Fortune's Always Hiding as well. Anyone remember On The Terraces?

I used to love going in to Sportspages on Charing Cross Rd if I'd not gone to a game to catch up on the latest issues. All pre-internet really. Sportspages has gone as well.

Re: OLAS to close after 27 years
OLAS saw off all the other fanzines one by one but my all-time favourite is 'Fortune's always Hiding.' I genuinely laughed out loud at a lot of the articles and cartoons in that.

OLAS was always a good read, credit to all involved.

Re: OLAS to close after 27 years
The web forum and chat board have done for the fanzine.

BUT, you could run website like it and have authors contribute and then they could get the feed back first hand. Actually we try that with articles on here and it fails.

I reckon they should let me write one.

He's been offered a world tour as he's now doing well as a reggae dj. That's why it's closing. Always seemed a decent bloke to me.
